Taylor Swift Is Making Her Debut as a Film Director
Edited by Michelle Ho
The 11-time Grammy-award-winning singer-songwriter – and now soon-to-be professional screenwriter and film director – is making her feature film directorial debut. Swift has been directing some of her music videos since 2008's "I'm Only Me When I'm with You." Following Taylor Swift’s massive success with the “All Too Well” music video, Searchlight Pictures has partnered with Swift to develop a feature film. Swift has written an original script, which will be produced by the Oscar-winning studio behind “Nomadland” and “The Shape of Water”.
“Taylor is a once-in-a-generation artist and storyteller. It is a genuine joy and privilege to collaborate with her as she embarks on this exciting and new creative journey,” said Searchlight presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield.
Recently, Swift became the only solo artist ever to be honoured at the MTV VMAs with two best direction awards for her work on “All Too Well: The Short Film” and “The Man.”
Besides directing, singing, and songwriting, Swift has also acted in Hollywood. She made her acting debut in a 2009 episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, playing a young goth woman who is bullied online and eventually murdered. She followed with an appearance in the star-studded rom-com Valentine's Day in 2010.
After a break – with only a few appearances in projects like The Lorax – Swift played the CGI cat Bombalurina in the 2019 Broadway adaptation Cats. Furthermore, she made a brief appearance in David O. Russell's Amsterdam, which premiered earlier this year and stars Margot Robbie, Christian Bale, and John David Washington.
