“Paradise within Inferno”: Single’s Inferno Season 3

From December 12th onwards, Single's Inferno Season 3 has been airing on Netflix with a newly selected group of young, attractive Korean singles stuck in "Inferno", a deserted island with minimal supplies and only canned chicken and carrots for food. The show circles around the contestants mingling, bonding, and competing in games with the hopes of arriving in "Paradise", the promising luxurious five-star hotel experience lying in wait for those who successfully couple up.

The format of the show has changed in comparison to the previous two seasons, with a second island and set of contestants added, leading to unexpected twists and drama. Many of the original couples were tested to their limits, with the introduction of new gorgeous contestants rattling the initial solid relationships formed and testing their loyalties. The singles are documented as they navigate through the emotional hardships and turmoil in hopes of leaving the island with the perfect match.

The main highlights of the show were the love triangles forming between the dubbed “villain” of the show, Lee Gwan-Hee,  who had even developed as far as into a love rectangle after the addition of Cho Min-Ji halfway through the show, who charmed her way through the rest with her charisma and being close to his “ideal type”. Other contestants fighting for his affection include Choi Hye-Seon, a bubbly fan favourite, and Yun Ha-Jeong, a spirited, feisty girl who had been the only one to take him down a notch. All of these contestants showcased their personalities, dating styles, and communication skills with flair, bringing immense bouts of entertainment and drama throughout their interactions in the show.

As a show proclaiming to help singles find love, most notably through pairing through impressions and the basis of wanting to get to know each other better, an unexpected occurrence was the attraction blooming between contestants Yu Si-Eun and Choi Min-Woo, both initially rather shy and reserved, yet popular amongst the other contestants and having opportunities to enjoy the luxuries of “Paradise” more than once. However, after experiencing paradise in coupling up with other singles, it was clear that their connection was irreplaceable and had undoubtedly grown even stronger through the hardships faced and the limited time spent with each other.

Despite barely knowing each other’s age and occupation as well as complications such as the advances of contestants Kim Gyu-Ri and Son Won-Ik expressing their interest in a member of the couple, the pair’s commitment remained unwavering and reasserted their feelings for each other. The pair had truly experienced “Paradise within Inferno”, a wholesome moment in the show to all the audience members;  a testament to the fact that there just may be a chance that true love is possible in the most unexpected circumstances.
