After winning a close game with the Oklahoma City Thunders by 3 points (130-133) with a stepback jump shot, Lebron James of the Los Angeles Lakers has broken the record for the highest-scoring NBA player of all time with 38,388 points (as of the time writing this article). This record was previously held by Kareen Adbul-Jabbar, a former Lakes player who held the record with 38,388 points, who became the league’s highest-scoring player on April 5th, 1984, and retired in 1989.

“To be in the presence of such a legend and great as Kareem, it means so much to me. It’s very humbling”, stated Lebron for a brief ceremony in the middle of the game at center court, thanking everybody who was part of his run for the last 20 years. As of right now, Lebron has won four NBA Championships, appeared in 19 consecutive NBA All-Star games and won the league's Most Valuable Player award on four occasions.

Kareen has also commented on his record being broken, congratulating Lebron on his achievement, as well as expressing happiness and enthusiasm, and also stated “LeBron’s career is one of someone who planned to dominate this game. He had the size and the talent to step right into the NBA, and he immediately had his effect. It’s gone on for 20 years now. He has that indefinable essence that you call leadership, that people want to get behind him.” on the NBA website.

Here is a video clip uploaded by the Official National Basketball Association Youtube Channel showing Lebron James scoring and breaking the record.
