Do you know about Food Day? World Food Day is an international day celebrated every year on the 16th of October to commemorate the founding of the United Nations FAO. It is a nationwide celebration of healthy, sustainable and healthy food. People gather from all over the country to discuss, eat, and celebrate good food. Through the celebration of Food Day, people are able to recognise their country’s production and accomplishments of food and dedicate more effort towards areas of improvement to allow more Americans to access natural, affordable and healthy food products.

Food Day is a movement to promote food sustainability and food health to our generations and to further improve our food market through social connections; to raise awareness about rising food prices, food and health crisis, hunger, etc.

Therefore, Food Day has brought several benefits to our community:

  • The organic food market is growing six times faster than conventional food

  • More than 12,000 schools nationwide consist of a far-school programme

  • The number of small farms increased by 76,000 between 2002 and 2007

  • People are paying more attention to where our food comes from and are thus supporting more small and local farms

  • Entrepreneurs are rapidly starting new businesses that produce and deliver organic food to local communities

Ultimately, Food Day is a worldwide commemoration of the FAO that brought the people’s attention to acknowledging global hunger to eradicate hunger worldwide. With the intention of celebrating Food Day, countries are able to identify further efforts to be made to improve their accessibility of affordable, real and healthy food to all people and citizens, gain motivation and activeness from social interactions in order to contribute more energy into benefiting our future food markets to bigger percentages of the population; spread the message of safe diet, organic and sustainable farms, and thus reduce hunger.
