BLACKPINK’s Sister Group BabyMonster!! Final Run-down
Edited by Audrey Yeung
M-pop agencies released a video where it reveals the final line-up of BabyMonster at midnight KST on May 12th.
In the first half of the reveal video, Yang (Head Producer of YG Entertainment) names five trainees who would make up BabyMonster, namely Ahyeon, Ruka, Chiquita, Haram, and Pharita. YG had previously said that the group would only feature five members in total.
After revealing the five members, Yang explained the reasons why he excluded Rora and Asa from the line-up. For Rora, it was because she “is still young” and there are other upcoming female groups YG is preparing. Meanwhile, for Asa, Yang is planning to go to Japan and create a global girl group and has Asa in mind for that project.
However, Yang later spoke about why it took him two weeks to come to a final decision for the line-up of BabyMonster because the vast majority of fans were demanding seven members to debut in the group. Yang the producer then confirmed the board featuring all seven members and confirmed that they will all debut in the upcoming group BabyMonster. Hence, the final line-up comes after the end of the group’s web show “Last Evaluation” where the members underwent challenges for YG producers to select who to debut.
Finally, on May 12th, the company revealed BabyMonster will be a seven-member group with Ahyeon, Ruka, Chiquita, Haram, Pharita, Rora, and Asa, along with the release of their pre-debut song “DREAM”.
For a bit of a back story, December 30, 2022, is when YG unveiled their poster titled “YG Next Movement” containing silhouettes of 7 girls on the poster, stating January 1st as the reveal day for something related to the group.
On March 6, YG Entertainment released a teaser for “Last Evaluation”, a series that airs weekly showing the seven girls’ final monthly evaluations.
