Pokémon Scarlet and Violet finally released!
Edited by Lianne Lee
The latest Pokémon Game “Pokémon Scarlet and Violet”, was released to the public on November 18th, just around two weeks ago.
Scarlet and Violet mark another generation of unique Pokémon joining the roster, in addition to a special region named Paldea. Each Pokémon region draws inspiration from real-world locations. For example, the tropical Alola region, which came with Pokémon Sun and Moon released in 2016, was based in Hawaii. This time, The new region draws real-world inspiration from Spain.
Moreover, 107 new Pokémon came with the release of the region. Amongst them are the three starters that fans were dying to see: Sprigatito, the grass cat Pokémon, Fuecoco, the fire croc Pokémon, and Quaxly, the duckling Pokémon. Along with these starters were two incredible versions of exclusive Pokémon, Pokémon that are available in only one version of the game. Evolving from Charcadet, the fire child Pokémon, you can expect to get Armorouge, the fire warrior Pokémon, or Ceruledge, the fire blades Pokémon. These two bear astonishing colour palettes of, unsurprisingly, scarlet and violet. Armorouge is exclusive to the Scarlet version of the game, and Ceruledge will be exclusive to the Violet version.
Scarlet and Violet also boast a new gimmick: as well as familiar faces returning in regional variants like Wooper and Quagsire, a feature initially introduced by the Alola region, the Paldea region boasts a unique combat feature: Terastallizing. Each Pokémon has a unique tera type, revealed only after Terastallizing. This completely changes the Pokémon’s typing, from a normal type to a flying one. It’s unpredictable and opens up more possibilities and strategies for trainer battles.
Pokémon games that continue the trend of another generation of unique regions and creatures don’t come by very often. They release once every three years, so fans were quite excited to hear the release date of a new game from the main series so soon. Even Nintendo themselves were quite hyped for this release, going so far as to collaborate with Ed Sheeran for an in-game soundtrack named Celestial.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are available on the Nintendo Switch today, so whenever you have time, pick up a copy and start exploring the wonderful Paldea region today!
