“Barbie” the Movie

After being on our television screens for two decades, we are finally seeing a live-action Barbie movie make its way to Hollywood. Barbie is hitting the theatres this summer on July 21, 2023, as announced by Warner Bros. Directed by Little Women director, Greta Gerwig, and co-written by Noah Baumbach, Barbie is a fantasy comedy movie based off Mattel’s beloved Barbie dolls. Starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, the movie also features multiple other famous celebrities such as Simu Liu, Dua Lipa, Emma Mackey, Helen Mirren, Michael Cera and even John Cena! Rumour has it that Dua Lipa will be recording the original music for the movie, how amazing is that?
The story follows Barbie who gets banished from Barbieland and sets off into the real world in search of true happiness. The doll cast includes Margot Robbie, Hari Nef, Emma Mackey, Dua Lipa, Ana Cruz Kayne, Sharon Rooney, Emerald Fennell, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Nicola Coughlan, Alexandra Shipp and Ritu Arya, Ryan Gosling, Kinglsey Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa and Michael Cera. Meanwhile, the human cast includes America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Connor Swindells, Jamie Demetriou, Will Ferrell and Dame Helen Mirren. With its 80’s inspired, eye-catching neon posters, it has elicited a wave of excitement all over the internet. I’m sure that fans everywhere (including myself) will be flocking to the theatres on July 21st!
